Terms and Conditions of Service

General terms and conditions for accessing the cultural portal, consulting the digitized historical archive, and using the Artificial Intelligence Assistant.

📜 1. Preamble and Scope of Service

These Terms and Conditions of Use govern access to and use of the web portal of the Cultural Association L'Artzon (hereinafter, 'the Association'), based in Saint-Pierre (AO), accessible at artzon.eu, including the Heritage section and the Digital Assistant for the Historical Archive.

Access to and browsing on the website entail full acceptance of these Terms and related legal notices, in particular our Privacy & AI Act Policy. If the user does not agree with these conditions in whole or in part, they are invited to refrain from browsing and using interactive services.

🏛️ 2. Access and Consultation of the Historical Archive

The digitization of Saint-Pierre's documentary heritage pursues strictly cultural, educational, historical memory, and scientific research objectives. Online consultation via the high-resolution viewer is free and open to the public.

The Association reserves the right to update, reorganize, supplement, or temporarily suspend access to certain folders, registers, or documents for conservation reasons, paleographic verification, transcript updating, or scheduled technical maintenance.

©️ 3. Intellectual Property and Copyright

All contents on the website (including institutional texts, trademarks and logos of L'Artzon, graphical layout, source code, gallery photographs, structured databases, indices, and enriched transcriptions) are the exclusive property of Cultural Association L'Artzon or AlpIA Tech, or licensed for legitimate use by rightful third parties.

✅ Permitted Use

Personal consultation, academic study, quotation with explicit attribution of the source (Associazione L'Artzon).

⛔ Commercial Use Prohibited

Reproduction for commercial purposes, resale, or distribution for profit without prior written consent is strictly prohibited.

🤖 Prohibition of Automated Scraping

The use of bots, crawlers, or automated scraping tools for bulk extraction of documents and archive databases is strictly prohibited.

🤖 4. Terms of Use of the AI Historical Assistant

The Historical Assistant is an experimental cultural dissemination tool based on advanced language models and RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architecture. The assistant operates exclusively to facilitate content discovery within the Saint-Pierre archive.

💡 Artificial Intelligence Disclaimer

The AI synthesizes information extracted from ancient handwritten documents (often drafted in Old French, Patois, or complex handwriting). While the system is designed to minimize hallucinations by anchoring strictly to archival texts, the user acknowledges that answers may contain inaccuracies, partial paleographic readings, or non-definitive interpretations.

Responses provided by the Assistant do not constitute an official archival appraisal or legal attestation: for any rigorous historical research or academic use, users are required to verify the original high-resolution document.

🛡️ 5. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Cultural Association L'Artzon and AlpIA Tech assume no liability for:

  • Any historical inaccuracies, dating errors, or incomplete paleographic transcriptions automatically generated by the AI Assistant or present in descriptive entries;
  • Temporary service interruptions, network malfunctions, or technical issues arising from force majeure, telecommunications outages, or extraordinary maintenance;
  • Any direct or indirect damages resulting from user's exclusive reliance on the automated assistant's answers without prior verification of the original archival sources.

⚖️ 6. User Conduct and Prohibited Uses

When using the website and particularly the Virtual Assistant, users formally agree not to:

  • Send queries containing defamatory, offensive, obscene language or infringing upon third-party rights and the historical memory of individuals mentioned in the archives;
  • Attempt prompt injection attacks, jailbreaking, or tampering aimed at bypassing the safety instructions of the AI agent;
  • Attempt reverse engineering of code, decompilation, or Denial of Service (DoS) attacks against the technological infrastructure of the portal;
  • Intentionally input personal data of third parties (e.g. health or criminal records data) into the interactive chat.

The Association and its technical partner reserve the right to promptly restrict service access for users who breach these rules.

⚙️ 7. Technical Partner & Infrastructure

Digitization services, semantic search architecture, document vectorization, and AI systems development are provided and maintained by AlpIA Tech (alpia.tech).

The infrastructure is hosted on servers compliant with the most stringent European data security and confidentiality standards, in accordance with the details in our Privacy Policy.

🏛️ 8. Applicable Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with Italian law. For any dispute regarding the interpretation, validity, enforceability, and performance of these Terms, where the user qualifies as a consumer, the court of residence or domicile of the user shall apply; in all other cases, the Court of Aosta (Italy) shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

For any clarification regarding these Terms, you can contact the Association at the email address: info@artzon.eu.
