Privacy Policy & Artificial Intelligence
Transparency, protection of personal data and ethical use of artificial intelligence applied to the promotion of the historical and cultural heritage of Saint-Pierre.
🏛️ 1. Data Controller and Technical Manager
Pursuant to Art. 13 of European Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR), the Cultural Association L'Artzon, located in Saint-Pierre (Aosta Valley, Italy), email: info@artzon.eu, is the Data Controller of the personal data collected through this website.
The technological infrastructure, the digitization of the historical archive, the semantic search capabilities, and the artificial intelligence models are provided and managed by AlpIA Tech (alpia.tech), acting as the Technical Data Processor (Art. 28 GDPR), ensuring high standards of confidentiality, cybersecurity, and data sovereignty within the European Union.
📋 2. Personal Data Processed and Legal Bases
Our portal collects only data strictly necessary to provide the cultural services offered:
a) Browsing Data and Technical Cookies
Computer systems acquire certain technical data (e.g. access time, anonymized IP address at system log level) whose transmission is implicit in the use of Internet protocols. We exclusively use strictly necessary technical cookies (e.g. CSRF tokens for request security) and do not use profiling or commercial tracking cookies.
b) Contact Form
Voluntary submission of messages via our form involves the acquisition of Name, Surname, and Email, necessary to reply to user inquiries. Legal basis: explicit consent expressed through the dedicated checkbox and fulfillment of pre-contractual or associative requests.
c) Interactions with the AI Historical Assistant
When users formulate queries to the Historical Archive Virtual Assistant, the system processes the question text to retrieve relevant historical excerpts and generate the answer. An anonymous/pseudonymized session identifier and conversation log are stored for the sole purpose of verifying historical answer quality, preventing misuse, and improving the cultural research service (Legal basis: legitimate cultural interest and consent to chat usage).
🤖 3. AI ACT Disclosure (EU Regulation 2024/1689)
The European Artificial Intelligence Act (AI Act) establishes users' right to maximum transparency when interacting with automated systems and generative artificial intelligence. L'Artzon and AlpIA Tech maintain a rigorous compliance policy:
Users are clearly informed that the Historical Assistant is an AI-based agent. The user interface visibly indicates the artificial nature of the system via dedicated informational badges and transparent welcome messages.
Closed-Corpus RAG Architecture (No Indiscriminate Hallucinations)
The Assistant operates via RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation): it does not fabricate responses from the web, but queries the semantic index strictly derived from historical documents, notarial acts, registers, and digitized testimonies belonging to the historical documentary heritage of Saint-Pierre.
Zero Data Retention for Commercial Retraining
Messages, questions, and information provided by users during consultation are NOT transferred to third parties nor used to train or fine-tune foundational AI models for commercial purposes.
Awareness and Limitation of Liability
Paleographic transcription and automated analysis of ancient manuscript documents (often written in Old French, Patois, or complex scripts) may occasionally contain inaccuracies or partial transcriptions. AI answers are strictly intended for dissemination, historical research support, and cultural education: users are always invited to check the primary sources via the high-resolution document viewer integrated into the Heritage page.
Human Oversight (Human-in-the-Loop)
The entire process of digitization, indexing, and quality control is supervised by researchers from the L'Artzon Association and technical support from AlpIA Tech, ensuring respect for the historical value and dignity of individuals cited in the archival records.
🔒 4. Data Retention and Security Measures
The collected personal data is processed using automated tools and appropriate technical and organizational security measures (Art. 32 GDPR) aimed at preventing data loss, unlawful use, unauthorized access, and disclosure.
Contact form data is retained for the time strictly necessary to handle the information inquiry. Pseudonymous chat session logs are retained for a limited period solely for audit and cultural enhancement purposes, without any association with commercial profiles.
⚖️ 5. Your Rights (Arts. 15-22 GDPR)
As a data subject, the GDPR guarantees you the right to exercise at any time:
🔍 Right of Access
Know which data we process and receive a transparent copy.
✏️ Rectification
Request update or correction of inaccurate data.
🗑️ Erasure (To be Forgotten)

📬 6. How to Exercise Your Rights
To exercise any of your rights or request clarifications regarding this policy and the AI technologies used, you can directly contact the Data Controller by email at: info@artzon.eu.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Authority (www.garanteprivacy.it) if you believe that the processing infringes current regulations.
